The Pharisees- The Pharisees were a strict religious party, having a religious and also political empire a hundred and thirty years before Jesus.
The Herodians- A religious/political group that supported the ‘herods’(An appointed king from the romans to rule selected parts of the empire.) A group in which despised Jesus’ teachings and religious beliefs. The Herodian’s in the mark Gospel often conspired to end the teachings and actions of Jesus. Money-changers- A profession in which changes currency to a fixed rate. Used regularly in Jesus’ time because of the abundance of currency’s and the rules against certain currency’s being used Dove-sellers – Venders who sold the cheap bird, doves. In the time of Jesus doves were an extremely cheap sacrifice to god, this meant that even the poor could sacrifice to be in the good graces of god. Tax-collectors- tax collectors were the men who collected taxes from the Jewish community to serve the Roman Empire. At the time These Tax collectors were looked upon as sinners or traitors, being often known for their cheating and deceiving of the Jewish people for more money for their profit. The Sadducees- the Sadducees were a rich and powerful religious party, often thinking themselves above the ordinary person. The Sadducees were a noticeable ruling group before the conquer of the Jews by the age of the Roman Empire. The Zealots-the zealots were a militant based group with strong religious practices as well much like Pharisees. The zealots having much violent background, Trying to end the reign of the roman empire of the Jewish community with much violence means, believing and awaiting for the much prolonged messiah to lead an army to defeat the romans. |
